How To Have a Beach Day With Your Dog?

Summer is halfway over, but there is plenty of time left to make new memories!

One of the best places to be on a hot summer day is at the beach. We have some useful tips for you on how to make your experience fun and safe.

Investigate the Beach

You can’t go to just any beach. Do your research and find one that allows dogs, then look over the rules. While some beaches allow dogs to be off-leash, this isn’t always the case. Remember that most locations that allow canines to be off-leash only do so if the dog understands recall. This means that your dog comes to you when it hears its name.

Understand Beach Safety

Knowing the rules isn’t just important to the two of you; it ensures the safety of the other guests. Before you venture out, give your dog flea and tick repellent and update their vaccines. Make safety a priority by:

  • Temperament testing your dog
  • Knowing the signs of aggression
  • Making sure your dog is well-trained

Chances are, you will interact with other dogs, and you don’t want to risk your pooch’s health or that of another. Your dog should also wear a collar with ID tags in the event it sees something exciting and runs off. Even the best-trained pups get distracted. You can buy durable collars at Julius K9 to ensure your day remains fun!

Pack the Essentials

When you pack your bag, bring everything you and your canine will need for a great time! Some essentials to pack include:

  • Bottled water
  • A water dish
  • Towels
  • Toys
  • Booties
  • Doggy life vests
  • Sunscreen
  • Clean up baggies

On a scorching day, your dog may need booties. If the sand’s too hot for your feet, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws too. Also, you may need to apply some sunscreen to their nose and ear tips. And, of course, don’t forget snacks, both for you and your furry friend to enjoy in the shade!

Take Care of Your Pet

When it comes to knowing how to have a beach day with your dog, you have a lot to consider to ensure the day is perfect. Look for a location with shade at the beach, or bring a beach umbrella to give your pooch a place to cool off with you.

After a long day of catching waves, your dog may need a bath to rinse any saltwater out of its coat. Your pup also needs plenty of water—hours in the heat and drinking saltwater leads to dehydration. Vets also recommend you use an ear cleaner on your dog to lessen the chance of ear infections if water got in your canine’s ear.
